McAfee is in the fortunate position of being one of the best known brands in the computer security industry and along with Symantec, developers of the Norton applications, dominates the sector.

McAfee themselves use the label of the world's largest dedicated security technology company and pitches itself as taking on the world's toughest security challenges.

Based in Santa Clara, California, it is also one of the largest companies in the US, employing some 6,000 people, quoted as a public company on the New York Stock Exchange (it was recently added to the S&P 500 Index) and provides an extensive range of products for home users, small to medium sized businesses, large enterprises and various governmental and non-governmental organisations.

Founded in the late 1980s, McAfee got its first major kick up the corporate ladder as it completed its Initial Public Offering (IPO) in 1992. It then went through a number of incarnations, including a further IPO and major and minor acquisitions, to become the tour de force it is today.

Its range of products for the home and home office user is comprehensive to say the least. Top of the pile is McAfee Antivirus Plus which the company claims is the most effective protection against virus threats.

Alongside this is McAfee Internet Security 1 User which, they claim, is best against both virus and online threats.

Further complementing these products is McAfee Total Protection which protects against virus, online and network threats.

But it doesn’t stop there. McAfee’s Online Backup is a safe and straightforward way of protecting a user’s digital files and memories which can so easily be lost, corrupted, or indeed, stolen. And the kids are not forgotten too, as the McAfee Family Protection suite is the best way to keep the little ones safe whilst they are online and vulnerable.

McAfee Anti-Theft ensures that a computer user has total privacy and theft protection for those very valuable files. And last, but not least in this part of McAfee’s home and home office offering, is McAfee Site Advisor which both identifies risky websites and then protects against them.

One thing is for sure, McAfee can cater for most people’s computer security needs.
