Based in Moscow, but with operations in five global regions (Western Europe; Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Africa; North and South America; the Asia-Pacific region; and Japan), Kaspersky has over the last 12 years since it was formed, grown to be one of the giants in the computer security sector.
Its products are sold in 100 countries and it numbers its customer at around 300 million users worldwide. It now employs some 1700 people all geared towards creating top notch products.
The company claims that its most valuable asset is the wealth of experience and knowledge it gained over years of combating viruses and other IT threats, enabling it to pre-empt trends in malware development. This helps them remain one step ahead of the competition and provide their users with the most reliable protection from not only existing problems, but new types of attack as they arise.
The company produces a wide range of products for all types of computer user.
One of its best known products is Kaspersky Anti-Virus. This regularly receives top awards in tests conducted by respected international research centers and IT publications. And what shows through in this application is that Kaspersky was the first to develop many technological standards in the antivirus industry, including full-scale solutions for Linux, Unix and NetWare. And, furthermore, a new-generation heuristic analyzer designed to detect newly emerging viruses, provides protection against polymorphic and macro viruses. All this and continuously updated antivirus databases and a technique for detecting viruses in archived files.
One of the company’s latest products is Kaspersky Internet Security 2010. This provides complete protection for personal computers from all Internet threats. This application includes a Host-based Intrusion Prevention System (HIPS), which is an advanced application activity control technology which assigns security ratings to new, as yet unknown programs.
Kaspersky Internet Security 2010 is also the first antivirus product to include sandbox technology, which uses virtualization to provide a secure isolated execution environment for applications. It also comes with the advantages of Kaspersky Security Network, an innovative distributed malware control system.
